An 84-year-old woman has died in hospital after a house fire in Toronto, said police.
Emergency personnel responded to calls of a two-storey house on fire near Avenue Road and Boswell Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday, said Toronto police on social media.
A woman was found and rescued from the second floor of the home was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the woman later died in hospital due to those injuries.
Heavy smoke and fire was present when crews first arrived, said Toronto Fire.
They said the fire is under control and that crews will remain on scene Sunday for a fire watch.
The blaze led to extensive damage to the home, said Toronto Fire, but it was contained to the property and did not spread to neighbouring houses.
