Man rushed to hospital after van explodes in London shopping centre car park

A man has been rushed to hospital with burn injuries after an explosion in an underground car park, which saw 100 people evacuated from a shopping centre.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Queens Road in Wimbledon after reports of an explosion at approximately 10.10am on Monday.
Police, paramedics and firefighters found the contents of a van had exploded after the vehicle was believed to have struck the roof of a car park.
A Met Police spokesman said the driver, a man in his 60s, was injured and rushed to hospital.
The man’s injuries are being assessed.
The spokesman said the incident was ongoing and “is not believed to be terror-related”.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said its firefighters were supporting its partners after the incident at a shopping centre.
“Around 100 people were evacuated from the shopping centre,” the spokesman added.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) sent resources to the scene.
“We treated a man at the scene for burns and took him to hospital as a priority,” a LAS spokesman said.
Photos from the scene show the crumpled van surrounded by debris.
All of the windows have been smashed and the interior is exposed.

It is unclear what caused the explosion which went off near a busy train station.
However, Wimbledon Underground station and railway services remain open.
Queens Road has been closed in both directions between Princes Road and A219 The Broadway.
Transport for London (TfL) said buses were being “diverted via Alexandra Road, Gap Road and Haydons Road”.
