‘Moana’ Trailer: First Look At Live-Action Pic Starring Dwayne Johnson & Newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia

“I am a girl who loves my island,” the song tells us, “and the girl who loves the sea. It calls me.”
Here is our first look at Moana, Disney‘s live-action take on its 2016 smash that made $643 million worldwide and launched a 2024 sequel. Watch the minute-long clip above, and see first-look images above and below.
Directed by Hamilton Tony winner Thomas Kail, the film stars newcomer Catherine Laga’aia in the title role and Dwayne Johnson reprising his toon take on the infamous demigod Maui. Moana answers the ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with Maui on an unforgettable quest to restore prosperity to her people. We also meet the intimidating yet adorable tribe of Kakamora.
John Tui voices Moana’s no-nonsense father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams plays Moana’s playful and strong-willed mother, Sina; and Rena Owen is Moana’s revered Gramma Tala.
