West Coast Conference Gets Three Bids In 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference earned three bids in the 2025 NCAA Tournament as four-time conference champion San Diego earned the automatic qualifier. The Toreros earned the No. 9 national seed while Portland also garnered at first round bye as the No. 8 seed. Oregon State will host Washington in a first round game, as well. 

The Beavers will host the Huskies on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. The winner will go to No. 5 seed SMU. USD will play the winner of UCLA and Grand Canyon on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Portland plays the winner of Denver and UC Irvine on Sunday at 7 p.m. If both the Toreros and Pilots win, they will meet in the third round next week. 

The West Coast Conference has featured two or more teams in the NCAA Tournament in nine of the last 10 seasons. The last time the conference was a three-bid league was 2023 (LMU, Portland, San Diego). LMU advanced to the quarterfinals that year. 

West Coast Conference champion San Diego (13-2-3, 7-1-1) is coming off a conference-record fourth consecutive West Coast Conference championship. The Toreros went unbeaten at home this year at 9-0-1. USD concluded the regular season winning the last six in a row, five of which were shutouts. The Toreros outscored opponents in conference play, 19-5. USD has scored three or more goals seven times this season. Defensively, USD boasts nine shutouts. Lucca Adams owns the league’s top GAA and allowed the fewest goals.  

Portland (13-1-3, 6-1-2) was the only team in the country that is a perfect 11-0-0 at home this season, and also the only team in the country with 10 or more wins at home with no losses or ties. Additionally, Portland is one of eight teams with one loss or fewer.Ranked No. 1 in the country in the United Soccer Coaches poll earlier this season, the 13 wins are the most since 1995 and best winning percentage since 1988. The Pilots rank tied for sixth in the nation in goal differntial (+30). Portland has now competed in four of the last five NCAA Tournaments. 

Oregon State (10-4-2, 6-1-2) did not suffer a home loss or a loss in conference play until the regular season finale against conference champion San Diego. One of the top scorers in the nation Arnau Farnos paced the league in goals and points. He also leads the nation in points per game and ranks second in goals per game. The Beavers have scored 20 goals combined in its last five games. This will be the Beavers’ 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and their seventh in the last eight years. Oregon State has been selected to host its first tournament game five-straight seasons.

The West Coast Conference owns five national championships in men’s soccer, four by San Francisco and one by Santa Clara in 1989. Two of the four championships for the Dons came back-to-back in 1975 and 1976. This year’s bids are the 105th-107th in Conference history. 

The 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup will take place from Dec. 12-15 from WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
