UCare’s health contracts sold to Medica; 300,000 Minnesotans impacted

UCare announced more than 300,000 people will transition to Medica, under a new deal between the two Minnesota nonprofit health plans. The news comes after UCare previously announced it’s ending its Medicare Advantage plans next year.
UCare says, under the agreement, individuals enrolled in UCare’s 2026 Medicaid and Individual and Family Plans will continue receiving services without interruption.
UCare decided earlier this year to terminate its Medicare Advantage contracts, prompting the transition.
“This is a significant agreement that will enable us to preserve access to coverage for Minnesota’s most vulnerable members,” Hilary Marden-Resnik, President and CEO of UCare, said.

Lisa Erickson will remain as Medica’s President and CEO.
“Throughout the coming weeks and months, continuity of care will be our greatest focus,” Erickson said.
There’s no word on the potential impact to current UCare employees.
