Netflix fans have been “sobbing” at the newly-released Christmas film trailer written by Kate Winslet’s son.

Goodbye June is this year’s hotly anticipated Christmas movie that’s attracted some of the UK’s biggest stars including Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Timothy Spall.

Set just before Christmas, the mother of four adult siblings and the wife of their “exasperating father” is taken into hospital, causing them to face messy family dynamics and her potential loss.

“But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love”, the official synopsis teases.

And it’s clear from the emotional trailer that tensions are at their peak when June falls ill.

From Winslet’s character telling her dad, played by Spall, to “shut up” as he makes a dirty joke, to her sister, portrayed by Andrea Riseborough, drawing up a rota so they don’t “overlap”.

Heartstopper star Fisayo Akinade, who plays a nurse, tells one of the siblings: “Families are hard. That’s why I make sure people get good goodbyes.”

Mirren’s June jokes that she wants to look “presentable” as she’s “never died before. I want to look nice when it happens”.

She then emotionally shares: “Being part of this family is my biggest adventure…

“I love you all so much. But I love you twice as much when you love each other.”

Fans have been flocking to comment on the newly released trailer, admitting that Goodbye June has already left them in tears.

“Welp, I certainly wasn’t expecting to be bawling at my desk at 10:30 in the morning, but here we are”, someone posted.

A second wrote: “I’m not crying, you are” as another said: “My tears already cover my eyes just because of this trailer. The full movie will make cost a lot more for sure.”

Meanwhile, a fellow user added: “Sobbing at the trailer is not looking good for me I’ll need to watch at home.”

Goodbye June is truly a family affair behind the screens as well, with Winslet starring and directing the film and her son Joe Anders writing the screenplay.
