Man and woman seriously injured after stabbing in Cork

Two people have been critically injured after a stabbing incident in Cork.
The incident occurred in the Ballinlough area of Cork’s southside shortly after 7pm.
It is understood a third individual – a man known to the couple – was also injured in the incident which occurred at a property in Ballinlough.
The area is described as a mature housing estate just 2km from Cork city centre.
The man and woman seriously injured are understood to be a husband and wife.
Both are aged in their 60s and have lived in the area for some time.
A weapon described as a large kitchen knife was found at the scene covered in blood.
Gardaí and emergency services raced to the property after neighbours raised the alarm.

Armed gardaí were deployed to the scene in support of uniformed officers.
Multiple ambulances were also assigned to the scene.
The injured were treated at the scene before being rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
Both the man and woman are understood to be in a serious/critical condition and are being assessed for emergency surgery.
A man who was found at the scene is assisting gardaí with their inquiries into the precise circumstances of what happened.
He is understood to have suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
The area has been sealed off pending a full forensic and technical examination by Garda Technical Bureau members.
Gardaí will commence door-to-door inquiries to determine the precise circumstances of the incident.
It is the second stabbing incident in Cork in the space of 36 hours.
A young father, Mark O’Connell (38), died after a separate and unrelated incident in Hollyhill on Cork’s northside in the early hours of last Sunday morning.
He was found on a pavement outside a property in Hollyville shortly after 4am on Sunday.
He died at CUH despite desperate efforts by doctors to stabilise his condition.
