Ray Meagher confirms Alf Stewart’s fate in Home And Away train crash finale in hilarious new interview

Veteran Australian TV star Ray Meagher has left fans in stitches after threatening radio hosts with a very Alf Stewart-style warning: “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”

The Home And Away legend was asked to perform a version of UK singer Raye’s song Where The Hell Is My Husband?.

But Meagher was having none of it.

Co-host Kate Ritchie, who played Sally Fletcher on Home And Away for 20 years, quickly jumped in.

“I didn’t know about this, by the way,” Ritchie said.

Meagher, channelling his famously cranky character Alf Stewart, hilariously refused.

“These people asked me if I’d sing a song by somebody who I’d never heard of,” he said.

“The rattiest lot of dialogue, tripe I’ve ever heard. Nah, you’ve stitched me up.”

Ritchie confirmed she had nothing to do with it, while her 96.9 co-hosts Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli dissolved into laughter.

The hosts then played Raye’s song, hilariously peppered with Alf Stewart’s classic lines including “flamin’ mongrels”, “what’s all that racket about?” and “long-haired yahoos”.

Meagher appeared amused by the version dedicated to his Home And Away character, joking at the end: “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”

The actor, who has been on the Channel 7 show for nearly 40 years, also discussed whether his former co-star Ritchie could ever return to Summer Bay.

“We’ve touched on it a couple of times on the show recently and there’s a small dream, I think, on behalf of Australia …” Wipfli said.

“You talk about Brax returning and the River Boys, but imagine in 2026 if Kate Ritchie returned to the Bay.”

Ritchie seemed a little embarrassed and asked her co-host why he would bring it up.

“Because you’ve never clearly said no,” Wipfli replied.

Fitzgerald then suggests Meagher could speak to the Home And Away producers to see if the dream could become a reality.

“I’ve never been to the producers about a storyline for me, but I’d make an exception in Kate’s case and go and have a yarn to them,” Meagher said.

While Sally Fletcher left Summer Bay in 2008, the character returned briefly in 2013 for a special story line.

Home And Away’s ‘scary’ finale

This week marks the Home And Away 2025 finale which will feature a catastrophic train crash.

A character will die in the crash, though it is unclear whether it will be a long-time favourite or a lesser-known face.

Meagher called the finale “scary” during his radio appearance.

“I’ve heard a lot of people describe Home and Away as a train crash … but I can honestly say for a two-and-a-half-hour-a-week production, this is absolutely amazing, it’s so well done,” he said.

“There are a lot of very key characters involved — and on the train that crashes. So will they all make it out? Will some survive? Will one return? Who knows.”

Ritchie asked if Meagher himself would be on the train but fans can breathe easy.

“He couldn’t make that trip,” Meagher confirmed.

The Home And Away finale airs on Wednesday at 7pm on Seven and 7plus.
