Scotland’s 3-2 defeat away to Greece on Saturday looked like bringing an end to their hopes of automatic qualification for next year’s World Cup but a shock 2-2 draw between Denmark and Belarus has given Steve Clarke’s side a chance.

It comes down to this winner-takes-all clash against the Danes at Hampden Park, with Scotland looking to reach their first World Cup since 1998. As evidenced in Ireland’s enthralling 3-2 win over Hungary to secure a playoff spot, these games tend to be end-to-end affairs with dramatic swings back and forth.

Despite Clarke’s safety first approach, a high-scoring affair looks likely against a Denmark side who have scored 14 times in five qualifiers. If the visitors net early, Scotland will have to force the initiative and the game could become stretched.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals has landed in Scotland’s last three matches and a repeat of that looks likely in what should be an enthralling clash between two teams who need a positive result.

Odds: 6-4 bet365, Coral & Ladbrokes
