SINGAPORE (18 November 2025) – Singapore punched their ticket to the AFC Asian Cup 2027 after beating Hong Kong 2-1, as Thailand scored a crucial away win on the fifth matchday of the third round qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
At the Kai Tak Stadium in Kowloon, Singapore had two quick goals to thank for their 2-1 win over Hong Kong.
Matthew Elliot Wing Kai Chin Orr had given the host the lead after 15 minutes before Singapore struck back in a four-minute blitz through Muhammad Shawal Anuar (64th) and Ilhan Fandi (68th).
The full points saw Singapore stay of Group C with 11 points – three in front of Hong Kong, heading into the final of the group next year.
At the Colombo Racecourse in Colombo, Thailand walked away 4-0 winners over host Sri Lanka off the back of a brace (65th and 90th minute) from Jude Jacob Soonsup-Bell.
The other goals for Thailand were scored by Thanawat Suengchitthawon in the seventh minute and Pansa Hemviboon in the 77th minute.
The win allowed Thailand to be on the same 12 points as leaders Turkmenistan.
The final game of the group will be played next March, with Thailand to play Turkmenistan in Bangkok.
Elsewhere, the Philippines were 2-0 away winners over Maldives to stay second in Group A as Brunei Darussalam lost 3-0 to Lebanon in their Group B tie in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Malaysia edged Nepal 1-0 in Group F at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
