Costa Rica vs. Honduras: World Cup qualifying betting odds, prediction, pick

Costa Rica hosts Honduras on Tuesday as World Cup qualifying Group C finishes with a vital game for both sides.

Both teams slipped up in their last game, with Honduras falling 2-0 at Nicaragua and Costa Rica losing 1-0 away to Haiti.

Those results leave Honduras atop the group alongside Haiti, with both teams on eight points and Honduras holding a two-goal advantage on goal differential. Costa Rica is in third place with six points.

That means Los Ticos must win on Tuesday to have any shot at reaching their fourth straight World Cup. Miguel Herrera’s side will likely also have to hope Nicaragua can beat Haiti in a simultaneous match.

For Honduras, an automatic place is theirs with a win and maintaining its goal differential advantage over Haiti.

Only first place in Group C will earn a spot at the World Cup. The second-place finisher will have to be one of the top two second-place teams (out of three groups) to earn a place at March’s inter-confederation playoff.

Costa Rica vs. Honduras prediction, pick

Costa Rica has not looked up to the task for most of this qualifying round, with Los Ticos only winning one of two games on home soil. Honduras may still struggle to win away, so this could end up as a draw that helps neither team.

Prediction: Costa Rica 1, Honduras 1
