That means Los Ticos must win on Tuesday to have any shot at reaching their fourth straight World Cup. Miguel Herrera’s side will likely also have to hope Nicaragua can beat Haiti in a simultaneous match.
For Honduras, an automatic place is theirs with a win and maintaining its goal differential advantage over Haiti.
Only first place in Group C will earn a spot at the World Cup. The second-place finisher will have to be one of the top two second-place teams (out of three groups) to earn a place at March’s inter-confederation playoff.
