It’s time for Basketball: Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs played a solid game on Sunday afternoon, dispatching the struggling Kings fairly easily despite getting the news that their best player wouldn’t be available a few hours before the game. Stephon Castle had to sit on the second half with a sore hip and although the Spurs had a few dips when Mitch rolled out some wacky lineups, the outcome was never really in doubt.
The news that Wembanyama would be missing significant time came out after the game, and it sets up a period of at least three weeks where the Silver and Black are going to have to remain competitive while they’re waiting for the team’s most valuable piece returns to full health. The Spurs won’t rush Victor or Stephon back into action, and with Dylan Harper continuing to sit with a calf injury, the team is going to have to rely heavily on De’Aaron Fox as the only experienced point guard healthy enough to play for the a little while. After a slow start, Fox is starting to look like exactly what the Spurs traded for last year, and the team should be pretty solid when he’s on the floor. It’ll be interesting to see if LIndy Waters III ends up playing a lot of the backup minutes, or if we will see backup by committee with players like David Jones-Garcia getting playing time.
Tonight, they face the Grizzlies, who have lost their last four games and are missing several of their top players. The Spurs can’t take this game for granted, but if they approach the contest with appropriate fear, it’s a very winnable game, even without Wemby, Harper, and Castle.
One odd observation: Ja Morant and Ty Jerome are out with right calf strains, and Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, and Jordan McLaughlin all have left calf strains. Is the floor tilted a different direction in San Antonio than it is in Memphis? Investigation underway.
After precise measurements with laser interferometers, the Spurs facility staff will certify the court as perfectly level to an accuracy of 1 millimeter before the start of the game.
