New York — Kansas star guard Darryn Peterson will miss his third consecutive game, KU announced on Tuesday morning.

“Darryn continues to make progress from his hamstring strain,” head coach Bill Self wrote in a statement on social media. “He will be reevaluated at the end of the week.”

The freshman from Canton, Ohio, has been dealing with what was previously described as hamstring tightness that had forced him to sit out recent home matchups with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Princeton, after he averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in abbreviated appearances against Green Bay and at North Carolina to open his collegiate career.

Three days after Self said the Jayhawks would be without Peterson for the “immediate future” — though declined to totally rule him out for Duke — he will indeed sit out the game against the Blue Devils, which tips off Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Central time.

His next chance to play as Self attempts to ease him back into action will be against Notre Dame in Las Vegas on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Central as part of the Players Era tournament.
