Flash floods submerge western Nha Trang, rescue teams rush to evacuate

Rescue teams were deployed with boats, life vests, and specialized equipment to evacuate residents trapped in isolated neighborhoods and transfer them to safety.
Days of torrential rain have led to widespread landslides and flooding across the region, severely disrupting traffic. Major streets including Nguyen Khuyen, February 2nd, Thoai Ngoc Hau, and Pham Van Dong are underwater, turning daily life upside down for local residents.
Flood levels have exceeded half a meter in many areas, and over one meter in some locations, rendering vehicles immobile. Residents on February 23rd Street (Tay Nha Trang Ward) were forced to wade through floodwaters on foot. Many shops have shuttered.
As one of the hardest-hit locations during this storm, low-lying neighborhoods in Tay Nha Trang have seen floodwaters reaching depths of up to 2 meters.
Ward officials reported that areas such as Phu Trung 2, Phu Binh, and Binh Cang were completely cut off. Other heavily flooded areas include Phu Trung 1–2, Phu Thinh 1–3, Vo Canh, and Xuan Son – all severely impacting daily life.
Floodwaters surged rapidly, reaching depths of over 2 meters and flowing swiftly in some places, forcing many residents to call for help.
The Tay Nha Trang Ward People’s Committee mobilized about 10 rescue boats and canoes, along with nearly 180 personnel, including police, soldiers, and militia, equipped with life vests and rescue gear to access severely flooded zones.
As of 6:00 PM on November 17, more than 20 people had been reported stranded.
Several stranded residents were successfully evacuated to safe areas.
Le Thi Hai Ly, a resident of a low-lying area in Nha Trang, said floodwaters surged into her home by midday, rising over 1 meter.
At the time, she was at work while her mother and three family members were trapped inside. All four were later rescued by emergency responders.
In another image, Nguyen Ngoc Toan (62) and his wife Bui Thi Tuyet Nhung were seen waiting for their daughter after being rescued from the flood zone.
Toan, who had suffered a stroke and had mobility issues, was trapped by the floodwaters. His daughter’s distress call prompted a swift rescue.
“I’ve lived here for over 20 years. This is the first time I’ve seen the floodwaters rise so quickly,” Nhung said.
A foreign woman was seen frantically communicating with responders, seeking help for her two children who were trapped at home in Tay Nha Trang.
The flooding has turned daily life upside down. The Ga Market area is deeply submerged, halting commercial activities. Many homes, cars, and schools have been inundated.
During an on-site inspection in Tay Nha Trang, Tran Hoa Nam, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, ordered increased deployment of personnel, food supplies, and equipment to support residents.
He stressed that all levels of government must prioritize human lives above all else, ensuring no one is left behind in danger zones, and that full-scale evacuations must be carried out immediately.
In one of the most dramatic scenes, floodwaters poured into February 23rd Street, submerging the entire stretch.
Rescue teams waded through muddy currents to reach affected areas and assist stranded residents.
Khanh Hoa has recorded heavy rainfall totals ranging from 250–350mm, caused by a cold air mass interacting with eastern wind disturbances.
Severe rainfall has triggered widespread flooding and landslides.
In the most tragic incident, late on November 16, a passenger bus carrying 32 people was buried by a landslide on National Highway 27C (Khanh Le Pass), leaving 6 people dead and many others injured.
Other landslides have paralyzed transportation in the region.
