Multiple Yellow National Severe Weather Warnings for ice and snow affecting parts of Scotland and northern England from Monday to Thursday have been issued. The weather agency has urged people to keep updated with the latest forecasts as they may change as the week progresses.
Merseyside is not currently under any weather warnings but cold conditions are being felt here and an amber cold health-alert has been active since yesterday, November 17, and will remain in place until November 22. As it turns colder nationwide, with snow, ice and overnight frosts for some, people will be wondering if snow will fall in their areas.
The latest forecast for Merseyside from BBC weather indicates there may be some light snow in the coming days. In the forecast for today, the weather agency states: “Today, a band of showery rain will move east across the region, wintry over higher ground. Staying mostly cloudy throughout the day with further showers in the afternoon.”
Looking ahead to this evening, BBC Weather states: “Tonight, mostly cloudy with scattered showers, these falling wintry on higher ground. By the end of the night, some wintry showers are expected to reach lower levels.”

Tomorrow is when snow could fall on Merseyside, but areas of the north west could see it earlier. The latest BBC Weather forecast says: “Tomorrow will see variable amounts of cloud and scattered rain, sleet and snow showers in the morning. Turning dry and bright in the afternoon. Cold and breezy.”
As we enter the weekend, conditions are expected to improve and temperatures will increase. The outlook for Thursday to Saturday of this week is: “Thursday looks to be dry and cold with plenty of sunshine. Easing winds through the afternoon and evening.
“Turning cloudier on Friday with a band of rain moving in during the evening into the overnight period. Saturday may see a few lingering spells of rain, but bright spells should develop in the afternoon as it turns drier.”
The Met Office forecast for the north west this evening says there is a “greater risk of some snow” as showers continue overnight, especially in the north and over higher ground.
As the cold weather grips the nation, the Met Office has issued a warning about ice. The weather body states: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
