Delicious irony as vampire-slaying cheese recalled: It might contain something deadlier than garlic

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A cheese that would kill a vampire is being recalled for a possible listeria contamination.

Face Rock Creamery’s Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar block is being pulled from shelves after the Food and Drug Administration issued a recall after a discovery revealed that the cheddar’s “processing area” tested positive for listeria.

According to the FDA’s announcement, listeria is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

The six-ounce cheese block has a “use-by date” of Nov. 4, 2026, and is marked by a UPC of 8 512222 00547 8.

The announcement detailed that the potentially impacted cheese effects just 16 units.

It was sold between Nov. 10 beginning at 3:30 p.m. and finishing at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 — just a 72-hour window for consumers to buy the garlicky cheddar.

Furthermore, the cheese was only sold at the Face Rock Flagship store in Bandon, Ore., the statement detailed.

Customers who picked up the anti-Dracula cheddar can either dump the cheese or return it to the flagship to get a total refund.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their continued trust,” the statement said.

For any inquiries regarding the recall, patrons can call Face Rock Creamery between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT at 541-347-3223, or reach out via email at info@facerockcreamery.com.
