Ukrainian Music Consumption Doubles Since 2022, Industry Growth Soars

In recent years, the consumption of Ukrainian-language music in Ukraine has nearly doubled compared to February 2022. This is confirmed by a comprehensive analysis of the state of the Ukrainian music industry and its trends.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine confirms this.
Until February 24, 2022, Ukrainian-language content accounted for 33% of the total music assortment. By 2025, this figure had risen to 57%.
Against this backdrop, 79% of the population listen to music in English, 12% – in Russian (more often this is older tracks by Ukrainian artists), 16% – in other languages.
Statistics and key findings of the study
In Kyiv on November 18, the pomitni music label’s initiative called “Music Has Power” was presented.
According to the Ministry of Culture, this is a comprehensive analysis of the state of the Ukrainian music industry: its trends, challenges, and economic potential. The event brought together producers, musicians, managers, labels, as well as Ukrainian business and media.
The event was addressed by the Deputy Prime Minister for humanitarian issues – the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna.
She emphasized that Ukrainian artists are shaping the country’s contemporary cultural identity and remain one of Ukraine’s most powerful voices in the world.
Berezhna spoke about the tools of government support, including the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation’s grant programs and the “Own Business” program for the creative industries.
“For the Ministry of Culture, the development of the music industry is one of the important directions. Thank you for the research. For the industry it will provide an understanding of the market, its needs and strategy, becoming a source of ideas. We, as representatives of the state, will turn the obtained analytics into effective decisions”
– Tetiana Berezhna
CEO and founder of the pomitni music label Iryna Horova shared the main figures reflecting the real state of the music scene: the number of artists, release pace, and other indicators.
According to the Ministry of Culture, NUAM analytics for the first time systematically recorded the key processes in the industry.
In the NUAM database as of October, 15,837 artists were recorded, of whom 8,151 released at least one single in the current year. Among active – 870 debut projects.
Only in 2025, 67,837 tracks were released in the country.
There are 217 labels and creative associations operating in the market, which indicates growth of the industry’s institutional component.
From 27,155 tracks released in the first four months of 2025, 79.7% did not reach even 1,000 streams due to lack of promotion. The remaining 20% generated over 243 million streams on the Spotify platform.
The impact of Ukrainian music on society and the economy
As part of a study conducted by Ruban Litvinova Social Impact Advisory and Dive and Discovery Research, the potential impact of Ukrainian music was studied.
The survey showed that 86% of Ukrainians consider support for Ukrainian music an important factor for national unity, 66% say it strengthens pride in the country and a sense of personal identity, 64% say it helps feel a connection with language and culture. 80% of respondents who did not grow up speaking Ukrainian note that music helps them in language transition.
“We are conducting a major study for the second time, because without a deep understanding of the market it is impossible to build further development. It is important to have clear data: how many active artists there are now, how the ecosystem works, what impact music has on the listener, which streaming platforms are used, are listeners willing to pay for music, and how much Ukrainians value it”
– Iryna Horova
“Because without specifics it’s hard to explain how and why it’s worth working with us. Right now we have a chance to prove the opposite and show the real potential of music as an industry worth investing money in”
– Iryna Horova
Berezhna thanked colleagues from the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, the pomitni label, and all research partners for the joint work on the project. She emphasized that such studies form a basis for strategic decisions that will determine the development of the Ukrainian music industry for years to come.
In the Ministry of Culture, it was also noted that the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, from 2023 to 2025, supported a number of audio projects, including singles and albums, through grant programs and scholarships. In 2026 the UCF will launch a new program “Modern Musical Space” with two lots: “Professional Stage” and “New Voices”.
According to the studies, the share of Ukrainian-language book editions approached about 90% by titles and over 95% by print runs, which also demonstrates the progress of Ukrainian culture in the media sphere.
