The cast of an iconic UK sitcom are reuniting for the Great British Bake Off Christmas special, set to air in just one month’s time. The series in question has been off the air for ten years.

Earlier in the month, saw Edinburgh-born medical student Jasmine Mitchell become the first contestant with alopecia to be crowned The Great British Bake Off winner. Jasmine is the 16th person to walk away as the winner of the Channel 4 series, which originally aired on the BBC.

The 23-year old has been living with the condition which results in the loss of hair since the age of 12 and decided to live her life without wearing a wig. After facing her fellow finalists, Tom Arden and Aaron Mountford-Myles in the final, Jasmine was announced as the series 16 winner.

She said at the time: “I hope that in winning Bake Off I have made my friends, family and Scotland proud. I miss being in Scotland a lot, I grew up in Edinburgh and it’s a big part of my heritage. I feel like the more time I spend in London, the more I long to be in the Scottish Highlands!

“If I had told myself three years ago that I would be going about my life without wearing a wig, with no hair, I would have laughed and said, ‘don’t be ridiculous’. I could never have imagined being on the Bake Off, let alone doing it with no hair.

“Life with alopecia has definitely been challenging at times. I am still very much in the process of learning to love it. But I am getting to the point where more days than not I am actually really enjoying looking a bit different.

“Having alopecia has (and is) changing my perception of what beauty is. Being authentically yourself, the way you were made to be, is so much more beautiful than trying to look like everyone else around you.”

The next series of the public version won’t air until next autumn. However, Channel 4 have confirmed that December’s Christmas special will see the cast of Peep Show come together in the iconic baking tent.

Created in 2003 by Succession’s Jesse Armstrong and David Mitchell and Robert Webb, who both star in the series, Peep Show is considered one of the nation’s best ever comedies. Following the lives of Mark Corrigan and Jeremy Usbourne, two flatmates in Croydon, London, the series graced the world with Super Hans and the concept of having four naans in a restaurant.

Filmed through the POVs of Mark and Jeremy, the series ran for nine seasons and became the longest-running comedy in Channel 4 history in terms of years on air. Sadly, it came to an end in 2015 to dismay of its fans.

The Great Peep Show Christmas Bake Off will see David Mitchell, Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie, Matt King and Sophie Winkleman reunite to roll up their sleeves and tackle a series of seasonal baking challenges.

Despite going on to win an Oscar in the years that have followed the show ending, Olivia – who played Sophie -remains extremely close to Robert and David, with the trio even attending university together.

According to Channel 4, the group will don festive jumpers and attempt to whisk, knead and decorate their way to glory with challenges that pay homage to Peep Show. Their creations will be analysed by judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, with plenty of mischief provided by Bake Off hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

The news arrives in the same year which saw Robert and David return with a new sketch show for the first time in 15 years. Titled Mitchell And Webb Are Not Helping, the series aired on the BBC.

Appearing on The One Show to promote the show, the pair were quizzed on if Peep Show would ever return. While not confirming their Bake Off special, David didn’t deny more adventures with the friends known as the El Dude Brothers.

“We said when it stopped that we weren’t absolutely ruling out visiting them again in their dotage. That remains the situation, but there are no plans,” he said. Robert then added: “Well, it would be different, but yeah.”
