Daisy Ridley Faces The Hungry Undead in the Trailer For WE BURY THE DEAD

A new full trailer for the zombie horror thriller We Bury The Dead has arrived, and it offers a fresh and genuinely eerie spin on the zombie genre.
Vertical released the official look giving audiences a taste of the grim world awaiting when the film hits theaters in January 2026. If you’re into clever twists on undead chaos or you just love a good cinematic chill, this one should be on your radar.
The movie made a big impression during its premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival, earning high praise for its atmosphere and sharp storytelling. Reviewers highlighted its “bursts of genuine scares in the process and an awe-inducing sense of scale,” and the trailer absolutely reflects that energy.
At the center of it all is Daisy Ridley, starring as Ava, a woman searching for her missing husband after a catastrophic military disaster wipes out much of Tasmania.
The infection doesn’t merely revive the dead, it turns them into aggressive predators. Ava joins a body retrieval unit to search the wasteland, but things take a dark turn when the corpses she’s burying begin to stir.
Here’s the official synopsis: “From acclaimed writer/director Zak Hilditch, We Bury The Dead is a gripping and emotional thriller set after a military experiment decimates the people of Tasmania.
“Daisy Ridley stars as Ava, a desperate woman who joins a ‘body retrieval unit’ in the hopes of finding her husband alive. Ava’s search takes a chilling turn, however, when the corpses she’s burying start showing signs of life…
“As she journeys to the south of Tasmania in search of her husband, Ava is forced to confront the undead and make peace with her own unfinished business.”
The cast also includes Brenton Thwaites, Matt Whelan, Chloe Hurst, Kym Jackson and Mark Coles Smith. Director Zak Hilditch, known for These Final Hours, 1922, Rattlesnake and other genre standouts, brings his distinct style to this new tale of survival.
The trailer teases something atmospheric, haunting and a little more emotional than the typical undead brawl, and Ridley looks fantastic in the lead role. Horror fans and zombie lovers should absolutely give this one a look when it shambles into theaters.
Vertical will open the movie in select US theaters on January 2, 2026, making it one of the first horror events of the new year.
