The AFL Academy standout Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves is emerging as a top draft prospect just days ahead of the highly anticipated November intake. Hibbins-Hargreaves, who serves as co-captain of the Dandenong Stingrays, has garnered attention for his remarkable ability to perform under pressure, regularly finding the net with match-winning goals.
“I love the adrenaline it gives,” Hibbins-Hargreaves said regarding these crucial moments on the field. “I have an inner confidence as well, so it comes with taking responsibility – I like having the ball at that stage of the game.” Reflecting on his early dreams of kicking the winning goal, he mentioned, “It’s the footy high.”
As the draft nears, interest from clubs like Fremantle, Essendon, Hawthorn, and West Coast appears strong, with scouts projecting he may be selected somewhere in the late first round or early second round. With aspirations to become a one-club player, Hibbins-Hargreaves sees a potential move west as an opportunity rather than a setback; his stepdad, Mark Haynes—a former WAFL player—would provide invaluable support should he decide to relocate.
“I’m going to have to learn to cook and clean a little bit more but I would embrace the opportunity,” he mentioned about the prospect of moving away from home. “I think it’s meant to be. I want to be true to one club if I can do that.”

Haynes, who had a brief stint on Hawthorn’s rookie list, has played a significant role in shaping Hibbins-Hargreaves’ development over the years. The guidance he has received has been pivotal, as the young athlete recognizes how vital this support has been to his progress. “If I didn’t have that influence, I would not have gotten to where I am today,” he noted.
As a Mornington local, Hibbins-Hargreaves emphasizes his deep connection to the community, highlighting the importance of family and roots. He expressed enjoyment in playing senior games for Mornington in 2024, feeling a sense of pride to represent a community that has supported him throughout his journey.
However, injuries have recently hindered his progress. A shoulder injury kept him from participating in key AFL Academy matches, and a concussion prevented a planned debut with Richmond’s VFL side. Despite these setbacks, his skills are undeniable, showcasing talent that rivals anyone in the draft pool.
While some industry voices have raised concerns about his consistency, Hibbins-Hargreaves remains unfazed. “I sort of don’t understand it and I definitely don’t see it as an issue,” he asserted. “There are reasons for my little setbacks, and I listen to my coaches over the external noise.” He acknowledged that variability in his performance can stem from his physical match-ups, emphasizing the need to adapt his game depending on the situation.
A standout performance of four goals and 18 disposals for Vic Country against Western Australia illustrated the impact he can have when healthy. Additional notable performances, including a five-goal game for Dandenong, demonstrated his versatility and capability on larger fields.
As he prepares for the draft, Hibbins-Hargreaves is determined to showcase his readiness to contribute. “If a club drafts me, they’re getting someone who will put in work and will be privileged, not complacent,” he stated. With aspirations to serve in various roles on the field, he believes his dynamic playstyle makes him a challenging matchup for opponents, highlighting his ability to adapt in different positions, including halfback, wing, and forward.
