A crash closed the A55 on Anglesey for hours.

The incident happened on the expressway between Llanfairpwll and Gaerwen at around 4pm.

Eyewitnesses said it involved a lorry, a tractor and a car – with the central reservation damaged.

This saw the road initially closed in both directions.

At around 4.30pm one lane reopened in the eastbound direction but the westbound carriageway has remained shut.

This has caused traffic chaos in the area with some drivers reporting delays of an hour.

The situation was compounded by sudden and unexpected snowfall on the island that caused treacherous conditions on parts of the A55 in central Anglesey.

North Wales Police said: “Both carriageways are currently white due to snow. Take care when driving and drive to weather conditions.”

There was also a second crash on the A55 westbound between Junction 4 RAF Valley – Junction 3 Valley.

This saw the road partially closed in the westbound direction.

That crash was cleared shortly after 7pm.
