School district responds to petition to remove Megyn Kelly from hall of fame

DELMAR, N.Y. (WRGB) — A petition circulating online calling for the removal of a prominent media personality from a local high school’s Hall of Fame has drawn a response from the school district, clarifying that the honor no longer exists.
The petition, which has garnered nearly 800 signatures as of this writing, asks Bethlehem Central High School to remove graduate Megyn Kelly from its Hall of Fame.
Kelly, a former anchor for Fox News and NBC News, is an alumnus of the high school. She currently hosts a political talk show on SiriusXM satellite radio, a platform she has utilized since 2021.
The call for her removal follows recent comments Kelly made on her show regarding claims against Jeffrey Epstein and the release of court documents associated with him.
“He [Epstein] liked the very young teen types that could pass for even younger than they were, but would look legal to a passerby,” Kelly said. “There’s a difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old, you know?”
However, in a statement provided to CBS 6, Bethlehem Central School District Superintendent Jody Monroe clarified that the district had already ceased the program years ago.
According to Monroe, the high school’s Hall of Fame was officially decommissioned in 2021.
“The volunteer nominating committee determined that it was not an appropriate use of their time or district resources to vet and consistently review the actions of adults,” Monroe said.
Monroe further stated that following the decision in 2021, the physical presence of the Hall of Fame was removed from the high school hallways, and all references were scrubbed from the district’s website.
Here’s the full statement from Superintendent Monroe that was sent to CBS6:
“The high school Hall of Fame was decommissioned in 2021, when the volunteer nominating committee determined that it was not an appropriate use of their time or district resources to vet and consistently review the actions of adults. Its presence was removed from the high school and from the district website,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “The district’s mission is rooted in four core values: academics, character, community and wellness. Fame is not among them, and sometimes achieving or sustaining it means abandoning the values we try to instill in our students. We have the utmost respect for our alumni who uphold these values every day.”
