How old were Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton in ‘Everybody Loves Raymond?’

It’s been nearly 30 years since viewers were introduced to the Barone family during the 1996 pilot of “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton starred as married couple Ray and Debra Barone. The show centered on the duo’s everyday life in a Long Island suburb with their three children: daughter Ally (Madylin Sweeten) and twin sons Geoffrey (Sawyer Sweeten) and Michael (Sullivan Sweeten).
Ray and Debra also lived across the street from Ray’s overbearing mother, Marie (Doris Roberts), his gruff father, Frank (Peter Boyle), and his neurotic older brother, Robert (Brad Garrett).
When “Everybody Loves Raymond” premiered, Romano and Heaton were both 38. Their characters were supposed to be around the same age. By the time the CBS sitcom came to an end in 2005, the actors were both 47.
Romano and Heaton, who are both 67 now, are set to appear in the “Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion,” which will air on CBS and Paramount+. on Monday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. ET. Garrett, Monica Horan (Amy MacDougall), Madylin, and Sullivan will also appear in the television special.
The cast has suffered several big losses since the series finale. Boyle died at age 71 in 2006 due to multiple myeloma and heart disease, Sawyer died by suicide at age 19 in 2015, and Roberts died at age 90 in 2016 following a stroke.
Madylin, who is real-life siblings with her TV brothers Sawyer and Sullivan, reacted to Sawyer’s death at the time.

“Sawyer was more than just a brother. He was a strong and selfless friend,” she said in a statement shared with People. “When confiding in one another, Sawyer always had the kindest words of encouragement. He will live on in my head and those shared moments forever. Although my memories of my brother hurt now, they are some of the best I’ve ever had and deserve to live on in my mind and in the minds of my family forever. There isn’t a single day I won’t miss him.”
The “Everybody Loves Raymond” reunion special will pay tribute to Roberts and Boyle. Sawyer was not mentioned in the press release.
Back in June, Romano told the New York Post that there would never be an “Everybody Loves Raymond” reboot without the costars they have lost.
“Peter and Doris and one of the kids — they’re no longer with us,” he said. “We’re all heartbroken. They’re a big part of the show, the dynamic. Without them, I don’t know what the dynamic is. We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it.”
While Romano and Heaton were TV spouses for years, they’re both married to other people in real life. Romano shares three sons and one daughter with wife Anna Scarpulla and Heaton shares four sons with husband David Hunt.
“Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion” will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Monday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. ET.
