Tragic details of Stone Roses star Mani’s death emerge after ‘collapsing at home’

Legendary rocker Gary “Mani” Mounfield, who played bass in The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has passed at the age of 63 and it’s said he died after a fall at home

Gary “Mani” Mounfield reportedly died after collapsing at home.

The rock legend, who found fame as the bassist in The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has passed just two years after his wife Imelda. His death was announced on Thursday (November 20) by members of his family, such as his brother Greg and nephew.

It’s understood Mani died at his home in Heaton Moor in Stockport, Manchester. According to Daily Mail, the icon collapsed following a seizure and that an ambulance was called but he couldn’t be revived.

The outlet said Noel and Liam Gallagher were told of Mani’s death on Thursday afternoon, just hours before Mani’s brother Greg announced the news. Liam has paid tribute to the star on X, writing: “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani my hero”.

Greg’s statement on Facebook read: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.”

Gary’s nephew also paid a heartbreaking tribute to the rocker, writing on X: “Unfortunately with sad news my uncle Gary Mani Mounfield from the stone roses has sadly passed away today.

“Thinking of his twins and my uncle Greg at this sad time. He will be reunited in heaven with his lovely wife Imelda RIP Manni Your annoying nephew.”

His fellow Stone Roses bandmate Ian Brown wrote on X: “REST IN PEACE MANi X”. Liam Gallagher penned: “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani my hero”.

Happy Mondays singer Rowetta posted on X: “Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him.”

Gary tragically lost his wife Imelda to cancer in 2023, just two years ago. After her diagnosis, Mani told the BBC he underwent a ‘whole spectrum of emotions’.

He added: “One day you can be paranoid and flapping and very, very fearful about stuff and then the next day you can see she’s putting in the effort, there’s a pride in the fight of the lady”.

Gary and Imelda met during the recording of The Stone Roses’ second album, Second Coming, and married in 1998. They shared twin boys, Gene and George, 12, who were born in January 2013.

He had recently announced a speaking tour of the UK, which was due to span from September 2026 until June 2027. Mani was going to talk about his music career, including his time in The Stone Roses.
