The Sri Lankan cricket team’s tour of Pakistan for the T20 Tri-Series hasn’t started well. After being clean-swept in the ODI series, they lost their first T20 match to Zimbabwe. In Rawalpindi, Zimbabwe bowled out Sri Lanka for just 95 and won by 67 runs.
Batting first after losing the toss, Zimbabwe scored 162 for 8. Brian Bennett made 49 runs, while captain Sikandar Raza scored 47. Ryan Burl played a quick 18 off 11 balls. No other batter managed to reach even 15 runs.
How was Sri Lanka’s start?
Chasing 163, Sri Lanka had a terrible start. Four top-order batters were out for just 29 runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 11, Kusal Perera 4, and wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis 6. Pathum Nissanka couldn’t score any runs.
Captain Shanaka tried to hold the innings and guide the team, but Chamindu Mendis scored 9 and Hasaranga 8 before getting out. Shanaka himself made 34, but Sri Lanka’s hopes of winning faded.

Sri Lanka batted the full 20 overs but lost their last wicket on the final ball, finishing at 95. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans took 3 wickets for 9 runs, and Richard Ngarava took 2 wickets for 15 runs. Tinotenda Maposa, captain Sikandar Raza, Graeme Cremer, and Ryan Burl took 1 wicket each.
Zimbabwe won their first match and moved to the top of the points table. Pakistan, with one win, is second, but Zimbabwe leads due to a better run rate. The third match of the series will be played on November 22 between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
