Durham police say two young people were stabbed in Oshawa Thursday, prompting a “hold and secure” at a local school.

Around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to reports “of a large fight and stabbing” in the area of Harmony Road and Coldstream Drive, Durham police said in an email.

Two male youths were found suffering from stab wounds, police said. One was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries, while the other was assessed by emergency responders.

In a follow-up email just before 1:45 p.m., police said both victims were in non-life-threatening condition.

Maxwell Heights Secondary School was under a “hold and secure” following the stabbings, police said.

Two suspects fled the area before officers arrived, police said. There is a large police presence in the area as officers search for them.

Police said they will be updating the public with more information as it becomes available.
