“We are extremely honored to have been part of this organization for the last 20 seasons,” the brothers said in a statement. “Thank you to Laker Nation for embracing our family every step of the way. We wish things could be different with the way our time ended with the team. At times like this we wish we could ask our Dad what he would think about it all.”
Jesse Buss had served as the team’s director of scouting, while Joey Buss had been the president of the team’s G League affiliate South Bay Lakers.
ESPN’s Shams Charania confirms both men will retain minority stakes in ownership of the Lakers.
The Buss family’s sale of the Lakers to Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walton for $10 billion closed on Oct. 30.
The Buss patriarch, who died in 2013, purchased the Lakers and Los Angeles Kings in 1979 for $67.5 million.
