WE BURY THE DEAD Features Daisy Ridley in a Zombie Apocalypse

Movies
Zombies were all the rage in the 2010s, thanks to the success of The Walking Dead and movies like World War Z. But in the wake of the mega popularity of The Last of Us, the traditional zombie apocalypse has been reinvented. And that reinvention continues in the new film We Bury the Dead, starring the Star Wars sequel trilogy’s Daisy Ridley. The new film, from writer/director Zak Hilditch, also stars former Nightwing Brenton Thwaites from Titans. Also in the cast are Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin) and Narcos’ Matt Whelan. And here’s the official synopsis for We Bury the Dead:
After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead don’t just rise – they hunt. The military insists they are harmless and slow-moving, offering hope to grieving families. But when Ava (Daisy Ridley) enters a quarantine zone searching for her missing husband, she uncovers the full horrifying truth: the undead are growing more violent, more relentless, and more dangerous with every passing hour.
Vertical
Ridley’s character, Ava Newman, hopes to find her husband still alive in the disaster zone. She holds out hope even though the odds are very much against it. She enlists in a so-called “body retrieval unit,” and heads straight into the quarantine zone. But then, things take a turn for the worse, as she discovers that the disaster is far more bizarre than originally believed. This one looks to be another post-apocalyptic survival horror film that uses a massive zombie disaster as a metaphor for grief and loss, much like the recent 28 Years Later. Here’s hoping this one is just as compelling.
We Bury the Dead debuted earlier this year at South by Southwest. It arrives in theaters in the U.S. on January 2.
