Buffalo Bills sign player three days after releasing him

Brandon Codrington is back with the Buffalo Bills. And he may be back returning kicks soon.
The Bills re-signed Codrington to their practice squad Tuesday, the team announced. The move comes three days after Buffalo released him from the active roster to make room for Mecole Hardman.
Hardman delivered a 61-yard kickoff return in his Bills debut Sunday but later muffed a punt and lost a fumble, and suffered a calf injury. With Hardman’s status uncertain, Buffalo again turned to its 2024 All-Rookie returner.
Codrington, 25, won the Bills’ return specialist job out of training camp for the second straight year. In four games this season, he logged 10 punt returns for 58 yards (5.8 avg.) and 14 kickoff returns for 375 yards (26.8 avg.), including a long of 41.
Last year, Codrington finished with the fourth-most punt return yards in the NFL (313) and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team as a punt returner.
Buffalo originally acquired Codrington in an August 2024 trade with the Jets. An undrafted free agent out of North Carolina Central, he recorded a 63-yard kickoff return and 31-yard punt return in a preseason game for New York before being shipped to Buffalo.
The Bills may have already found their answer if Hardman misses time. Ray Davis was a revelation in Sunday’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with four kick returns for 158 yards (39.5 avg.), including three of at least 41 yards.
