Unveiling Spotify Wrapped, music of your year
Want to find out your favorite music of the year? Spotify Wrapped has you covered.
- Spotify Wrapped, the annual review of a users’ listening habits, will be released soon.
- Ahead of the 2025 release, Spotify has introduced a new feature showing weekly listening habits, similar to that of Wrapped.
It’s almost time! As 2025 comes to a close, the annual tradition of looking back at your listening habits throughout the year is set to return with Spotify Wrapped.
Since its 2016 inception, the music recap has become a full-blown pop culture and social media sensation. Each year, users await the drop with anticipation, eager to see which artists dominated their streaming habits and to share the data, presented in vibrant, eye-catching visuals, across their social media platforms.
“We hear from fans that Wrapped has almost become a ‘cultural report card’ of their year in streaming,” wrote the company in a 2024 statement.
Ahead of Wrapped, Spotify has introduced weekly listening stats that give users a snapshot of their recent streaming habits, essentially serving as a mini version of the annual feature.
“It’s all about exploring your unique music taste and maybe uncovering something new along the way, just like you do with daylist, Release Radar, and Discover Weekly,” wrote Spotify in a Nov. 6 statement. “Want the full story of your year in music? That’s what Wrapped is for.”
Here’s what else to know.
What is Spotify Wrapped?
Spotify Wrapped is an annual campaign that transforms each user’s listening data into an interactive, shareable experience. It offers a personalized look back at the year in music, spotlighting top songs, artists, albums, genres, and podcasts.
Spotify Wrapped first rolled out in 2015 as “Spotify Year in Music” and rebranded to Wrapped in 2016. In 2019, it was integrated directly into the Spotify app to give users deeper insight into their listening habits and personal music trends.
In 2024, Wrapped released various new features, including “Your Music Evolution,” “Your Top Artist Reimagined,” “Your Music Videos Playlist,” and “Your Artist Clips.”
When will Spotify Wrapped be released in 2025?
Spotify has yet to announce when 2025 Wrapped will drop and has not made any announcement regarding it on social media. A representative for the streaming service told USA TODAY on Nov. 3, they did not have any additional information to offer on 2025 Wrapped.
With past releases falling in late November or early December, this year’s drop is likely just weeks away.
Here’s a look at past Wrapped releases:
When does Spotify Wrapped stop tracking?
When rumors began swirling online that Spotify stops tracking listening data on Halloween, the platform quickly debunked the claim, confirming that Wrapped continues to collect user data beyond Oct. 31.
In a 2024 social media post, Spotify shared a Halloween-themed graphic featuring a jack-o’-lantern filled with candy and the message: “Spotify Wrapped doesn’t stop counting on October 31st.”
While the exact cutoff date isn’t known, Molly Holder, Spotify’s senior director of product for personalization, told Mashable in 2024 that the company aims to capture as much of the year’s listening as possible.
“We start at the beginning of January with all of your listening that begins right then at the beginning of the year, and it goes all the way through collecting data up until a few weeks before we launch the Wrapped product,” Holder said.
Spotify releases weekly listening stats. Can they predict your wrapped?
Like Wrapped, listening stats allow users to revisit their music habits in mini snapshots and share them across social media. The feature highlights top artists and songs from the past four weeks and generates personalized playlists based on favorite tracks, along with suggestions for what to queue up next.
“Each week, it also includes a special highlight that captures what makes your listening unique, whether it’s a milestone, a new discovery, or a fan moment,” wrote Spotify.
Listening stats are available to free and premium users in more than 60 regions globally. Here’s how it works:
- Click on your profile image to open the menu and click the “listening stats” tab.
- Check out your top artists, songs and insights.
- Tap Share to post your weekly stats or individual highlights.
How do I find my Spotify Wrapped?
If you’re using the Spotify app on iOS or Android, you will be notified when your Wrapped is ready once you open the app. Make sure your Spotify is updated to the latest version.
From then on, the feature will be available for viewing on the home screen and users will be able to download their top songs to their saved playlists. Users are also able to view their Wrapped via the desktop version.
