Former Coronation Street star Jack Carroll has shared details about his abrupt exit from the ITV soap, which took place earlier this year. With his departure taking place off-screen, the exit left many viewers confused.
The actor made his debut as Bobby Crawford on the long-running soap in December 2023, staying in the beloved role for nearly 18 months before making his final appearance in May of this year.
After a falling-out with close friend Lauren Bolton, Bobby ventured to Spain for a holiday, and it was later revealed that he wouldn’t be returning to Weatherfield as he instead opted to remain in the sun.
Speaking to The Sun, Carroll expressed his opinion that it was an ideal exit for his character, sharing: “That seems to be the trend in the way that they do exits now – it’s a bit more low-key because it gives everybody a bit more flexibility.
“I was grateful that they gave me that opportunity, and didn’t kind of kill me off or anything like that. I think in terms of ways to go, that was ideal for my situation and what I needed at the time.”

The actor, who shot to fame after finishing as a runner-up in the seventh season of Britain’s Got Talent, also spoke about his wider stint on the soap, with the star admitting it was a “difficult” decision to leave.
“It’s such a massive cultural institution so it’s an absolute privilege to work on the show from that perspective,” he said. “From the top down, everyone is so lovely as well – you get to work with really lovely people.

“It’s always kind of tough, weighing up the pros and cons of anything like that is difficult. I think that that’s why it’s nice in a way that I did leave in a bit more of a low key fashion, because then you’ve got the option in the future to return.”
While Carroll may make a comeback in the distant future, one actor who will be making a return to the cobbled streets is Helen Worth, with the actor set to reprise her role as Gail Chadwick over the festive season.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
