MG MGS9 PHEV Set to Launch in the UK in 2026 with Impressive Specs

In a recent report from Euro NCAP, details about the forthcoming MGS9 have emerged, indicating that this new model will be equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine is expected to operate in conjunction with a single electric motor and a sizable 24.7kWh battery, mirroring the plug-in hybrid system found in the MG HS, which currently offers significant savings through the Buy A Car service.

The MGS9 is anticipated to provide an impressive pure-electric range of up to 75 miles, a feature that has garnered attention in the industry. Scheduled for release in the UK sometime in 2026, specifics about the exact launch date remain unclear. However, it’s noteworthy that the vehicle is already available for purchase in Australia, allowing potential buyers some insight into its practicality and performance.

MG has touted the MGS9 as offering “true seating for seven,” in contrast to the often-criticized 5+2 seating arrangements found in some competitors. With a length of 4.98 meters—exceeding the already spacious Skoda Kodiaq by more than 200mm—and a wheelbase of 2.92 meters that is approximately 120mm longer than its rival, the MGS9 promises considerable interior space. The second row of seats can slide forward, enhancing cargo capacity when necessary.

In terms of storage capability, MG reports that the MGS9 provides 203 liters of boot space with all seats occupied. This expands to 517 liters with the third-row seats folded, and an impressive 1,052 liters when all but the front seats are down.

On the interior, the dashboard design closely resembles that of the latest MG HS. It features a dual 12.3-inch digital display—a central touchscreen accompanied by a driver’s display—contained within a single panel, complemented by a row of physical shortcut buttons. The aesthetic also includes wood-effect trim on the dashboard and center console, invoking a sense of luxury akin to that of the Volvo XC90.

With the starting price for the plug-in hybrid MG HS currently set at £32,245, industry experts predict that the MGS9 PHEV will have a price tag beginning at approximately £35,000. This pricing strategy positions it to undercut competitors such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008, potentially making it a compelling option in the growing SUV market.
