Morocco secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mali on Tuesday to book their place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup quarter-finals, setting up a high-profile clash against Brazil.
The Atlas Cubs took the lead in the 29th minute when Ziyad Baha brilliantly headed home a precise free-kick from Moncef Zekri. The first half ended with dramatic twists. In 45+6’, Mali equalised via a penalty converted by Ndjicoura Bomba, only for Morocco to regain the lead five minutes later through Ismail El Aoud, who scored from another Zekri set piece in 45+11’.
Morocco extended their advantage in the 66th minute when Alaoud finished superbly from the edge of the box, making it 3-1. Mali fought back in 90+4’ with Seydou Dembele scoring a late consolation goal, but Morocco held on for a memorable win.
The victory highlights Morocco’s set-piece prowess, defensive discipline, and clinical finishing, marking them as one of the tournament’s surprise contenders as they advance to the last eight.
