Alanna Kennedy Joins PFA Executive Committee to Advocate for Women’s Football

Professional Footballers Australia (the PFA) has welcomed Alanna Kennedy, defender for the Matildas and London City Lionesses, to its Executive Committee. Kennedy steps in to fill a casual vacancy, having already made significant contributions to the PFA, particularly during the 2023 negotiations for the National Teams Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). As a seasoned player with over a decade of experience, Kennedy has served not only as a delegate for the Matildas but also on the PFA’s CBA Committee.

In her new role, Kennedy joins fellow Matildas members Clare Hunt, Tameka Yallop, and Dylan Holmes. Expressing her enthusiasm, she stated, “I’m thrilled to be joining the PFA Executive and I’m looking forward to having an impact and work closely with my peers during an important time for the sport.” She highlighted the significance of the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which will take place on home soil, presenting an opportunity to enhance and professionalize women’s football in Australia.

Kennedy’s career is distinguished by her impressive record of 141 appearances for the Matildas, alongside participation in the last three FIFA Women’s World Cups and three Olympic Games. At the club level, she has enjoyed multiple successes in the A-League Women with teams such as Sydney FC, Perth Glory, and Melbourne City. Her achievements extend internationally, having played with Western New York Flash, which won the National Women’s Soccer League title in 2016, and she was part of the Manchester City team that secured the FA Women’s Cup in 2021-22.

PFA Chief Executive Beau Busch expressed his excitement about Kennedy’s appointment, noting, “Alanna has worked with us to secure several landmark achievements for her and her peers, and we can’t wait for her to bring her wealth of expertise to the table in an expanded role as we continue the push to professionalise the women’s game in Australia.”
