Ethan Slater Was Asked About Working With His “Girlfriend” Ariana Grande, and His Answer Is Telling

- Ethan Slater appeared on Today on Nov. 21 to promote Wicked: For Good.
- When asked about working with his “girlfriend” Ariana Grande, he dodged the question, instead complimenting the entire cast.
- Breakup rumors about Ariana and Ethan surfaced in October, but multiple sources say the pair is still going strong.
Wicked: For Good officially hit theaters today, and actor Ethan Slater (who plays Boq) decided to stop by the Today show for a lil last-minute promo. During his interview with Craig Melvin, he talked all about (spoiler!) transforming into the Tin Man and Boq’s character arc, but things took a turn when Ethan was asked how it felt “working with [his] girlfriend every day”…his girlfriend, of course, being Ariana Grande.
Unsurprisingly, Ethan dodged the question like a pro, instead pivoting to call “the entire cast incredible.” And though he did go on to say that Ari is a “brilliant” actress, he also gushed over Cynthia Erivo, calling her “remarkable.” Skip to 4:05 below if you wanna see the (kiiiinda awkward) moment for yourself.
Though Ariana and Ethan breakup rumors first started circulating back in October before the Wicked: For Good press tour kicked off, all signs point to the couple still being together. For instance: At the London premiere, TMZ sources reported that the two were spotted holding hands and “being affectionate backstage.”
A DeuxMoi insider also claimed, “Ariana and Ethan left together from the London Wicked premiere, in the same van. Her mom and brother were in the van, too,” while a separate source said they have it “on good authority that Ariana and Ethan are still together.”

Meanwhile, a source for People recently weighed in on how Ari and Ethan are “making it work,” noting, “They both have a lot going on, but their relationship is the real deal. They’re incredibly supportive of each other’s careers and so excited for everyone to see their new film.”
So! Chances are Ethan simply dodged the question because he and Ari tend to keep their relationship private, not because there is any truth to the breakup rumors.
