Shona McGarty is among the stars in this year’s edition of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
Shona, who played the major character Whitney Dean on EastEnders, was previously engaged to an Irish musician who has a strong connection to Galway.
She said yes to Galway-based musician David Bracken after dating for a little over a year, as well as being friends for years beforehand.

David, from the village of Pollagh just 20 kilometres from the pub, is the lead guitarist in the Galway-based band Blessed alongside Tony Cunningham from Loughrea.
Previously, after revealing their engagement, Shona said: “It’s a feeling I’ve never had before about a person. What we love about our relationship is that we are very like-minded, down to earth, grounded and not letting ‘fame’ become a thing. We both know we are very human, we both love music and acting, and we love food. We love how much we can enjoy good food together,” Shona said.
However, Shona and David recently went their separate ways and called off their engagement.
Now, her ex-fiancé, David, has shared his thoughts on Shona entering the jungle with a six-word statement.
Posting on his Instagram story, David wrote: “Let’s go girl! You got this.”
While David is a native of Offaly, he has set up his life in Galway and the pair met after Shona saw his band perform online. David forms one half of the band ‘Blessed’ with Tony Cunningham.
“David is a really amazing guitarist, he’s in a band and it came up on my FYP [For You Page], so I liked a video. And then, I got a message from David on TikTok saying, “I’ve seen your singing videos, I’d love to do a duet with you.” I said, “Oh, yeah, definitely, I think you’re amazing.” But I was so busy with EastEnders that it took me eight months to message him back,” Shona said.
“I went live (on social media) one night after a late-night gig and Shona popped up. I thought, “Right, now’s the time that you’re gonna speak to me because I’ve been waiting for the last two years.” So at 4am in the morning when I got home, I phoned her and we talked for an hour and a half. We started talking every single day from that day onwards,” David added.
