Thursday Murder Club author Richard Osman has a famous rock star brother

Pierce Brosnan caused a stir when he invited his mum May to the set of the film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club last year.

Despite the actor’s long career in the public eye, the visit was the first time many fans had seen the star with his mum and they loved the cute mother-and-son interaction.

As it turns out though, the author of the much-loved series is keeping some very high-profile family connections under wraps himself.

Richard Osman penned the books and has been heavily involved in the production of film, which is now on Netflix.

The author who first rose to prominence by appearing in shows including Would I Lie To You? and Pointless was thrilled to announce the all-star cast but he hasn’t spoken much about his own rock n’ roll connections.

Richard’s older brother Mat was part of one of the biggest British bands of the Nineties although he might not be recognisable by his name only.

In 1989 Mat along with future Elastic frontwoman (and Damon Albarn’s longtime other half) Justine Frischmann and Brett Anderson formed Suede.

Guitarist Mat and singer Brett are still members of the group today after initially breaking up in the early Noughties and since then he has turned his hand to several other ventures.

That has included creating music for TV shows including 8 out of Ten Cats but he also seems to share his brother’s literary talents.

Mat was the London editor of Le Cool magazine and also contributed his writing to numerous British media outlets.

He also released his debut novel The Ruins in February 2020, seven months before the release of The Thursday Murder Club, and a follow up, The Ghost Theatre in 2023, and also co-authored England on Fire with Stephen Ellcock.

What a talented family!
