Maine food pantries benefiting from CPKC Holiday Train stops Saturday

HERMON, Maine (WABI) – The CPKC Holiday Train will be making stops in Maine this weekend to spread some holiday cheer while raising money for food insecurity.

On Saturday, Nov. 22, the train will be appearing in Hermon, Greenville, and Jackman.

The events are free to attend, but you’re asked to come with a non-perishable food item or monetary donation to support a local food pantry.

Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Community Pantry is the beneficiary of the train’s first stop. The Hermon-area organization says the partnerships a game changer for them and they’re fortunate to have been chosen for a second time.

“The goal is to fill as much of a truck that we can with non-perishable food items. So, if people can bring non-perishable food on Saturday, we’d so appreciate it,” said pantry director Carol Lacked. “We’re definitely in need of some Thanksgiving items to finish filling our boxes. We need stuffing, and we need gravy, and we need cranberry sauce. So, as much of those kind of types of items that can be donated and brought to us, that would be great.“

If you can’t make the train, there are other ways to support the Neighbors Supporting Neighbors. Hermon High School’s Key Club is holding a food drive at Danforth’s on Sunday. Or, you can send a donation via Venmo to @carol-lackedy-1.

Here is the complete schedule of Saturday’s train stops:

The Hermon stop takes place at 1:30 p.m. The train will stop at the Coldbrook Road railway crossing between Autocar Lane and Dave’s Way.

It will then travel to Greenville for a stop at the Greenville Junction Depot at 6:15 p.m.

Its final stop will be in Jackman at 8:45 p.m. The address for that stop is 4 Walton Street.
