U.S. Agency for Global Media Clamps Down on Grantee Rogue Behavior

November 21, 2025

The U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is setting the record straight after a wave of misleading press reports and troubling financial claims pushed out by its own federal grantee, Radio Free Asia (RFA). The grantee, funded entirely by hardworking American taxpayers, has launched into a series of reckless moves, auctioning off broadcast and technology equipment, cutting staff, and suddenly abandoning property. These actions are not just irresponsible, they have triggered serious national security concerns.

“There are real national security stakes in our international broadcasting mission. Dumping IT equipment without required compliance reviews is not a simple mistake, it is dangerous. It is another insult to the taxpayers footing the bill and it puts U.S. security at risk. We will not tolerate rogue behavior from any grantee,” said Kari Lake, USAGM’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
