No. 1 UConn, No. 6 Michigan to Face Off in HOF Women’s Showcase

STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked UConn women’s basketball team (4-0) has its first top-10 matchup of the season as the Huskies face No. 6 Michigan (4-0) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The teams will tipoff at 8 p.m. on FOX and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).

UConn is 45-1 all-time at Mohegan Sun Arena. UConn is 135-56 all-time in games where both teams are ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll.

UConn took down Ohio State, 100-68, last Sunday in PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford. Sophomore Sarah Strong matched her career high with 27 points, set a career high with seven assists and added 13 rebounds, three blocks and five steals to lead the Huskies. Graduate student Azzi Fudd scored 19 points and shot 5-for-9 from three vs. the Buckeyes. UConn had 30 assists on 39 made field goals vs. Ohio State.

Sophomore Sarah Strong was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while Blanca Quiñonez earned her first conference Freshman of the Week honor on Monday.

This is the first meeting between UConn and Michigan. UConn’s Kayleigh Heckel and Serah Williams, transfers from USC and Wisconsin, respectively, faced Michigan last season.

Michigan is coming off a 120-50 win over Binghampton on Tuesday. This season, Olivia Olson leads the Wolverines with 17.8 points per game. Five players are averaging double-digit points. Head coach Kim Barnes Arico is in her 14th season at Michigan.

On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., the Huskies will face Utah (3-1) in the second game of the Showcase. The game will air on FS1.
