AUS vs ENG 1st Test: Jamie Smith involved in controversial DRS decision — Here’s what happened

England batter Jamie Smith was given caught behind in the second innings off Brendan Doggett following a Decision Review System (DRS) check that sparked controversy during the first Ashes Test against Australia in Perth on Saturday.
Smith tried to glance a delivery going down leg and missed, and Australia appealed for a caught behind dismissal, which was rejected by the on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
However, Australia took the DRS and got a favourable verdict. The Real Time Snicko showed a spike but only after the ball had passed the bat.
The third umpire needs conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field call. The official for this match, Bangladesh’s Saikat Sharfuddoula, deemed the evidence enough to adjudge Smith out.
The decision was not received well by the travelling England fans, who expressed their displeasure with boos as Smith walked off the pitch.
