20 years strong, B-100’s Basic for Babies still delivers for the Kamloops Food Bank

“It’s not just people bringing product. We have people making blankets and toques and clothing year-round to just wrap these babies in love,” said Siracky. “We talked about the fact that the babies we supported 20 years ago are now 20 years old. We are supporting our future leaders.”

There are few acts in life nobler than fighting for and supporting those unable to do so for themselves. That spirit was exemplified on Friday morning as the Kamloops community came together.

“This is my first time at the breakfast. I’m overwhelmed and overjoyed to see all the people here donating for our little guys,” said Diane Crook with the Kamloops Brock-Central Lions Club.

Cummins had one of the biggest cheques of the night both in physical size and monetary amount.

“It’s amazing. It just speaks to the community in this town — how everyone comes together to share a common goal and really help out where it needs to be helped,” said Eamon Wolfe.

Kamloops Ford Lincoln has been a proud supporter of the Kamloops Food Bank for years and doubled down with Basics after some sage advice from the next generation.

“We just love to support the babies. I brought my big baby here today. She is actually the one that kind of got us involved in all of this,” said Shane Prasad.

“I went to the food bank with my best friend and I really liked it, and now it’s just turned into this and it’s super fun,” added Eva Prasad.

Twenty years in and Basics for Babies is only growing stronger.

“They know the impact. They understand how important it is to give the babies in our community what they need, so they can grow up with nutrition in their bodies, so they are warm, so they can be changed every time their diaper is wet,” said Siracky. “It’s a no-brainer that that is going to have positive outcomes and positive impact.”
