Surface Pro Drops Nearly 40% Off, Amazon Hits Hard on Microsoft on Black Friday Day One

Amazon dropped discounts across nearly every Surface Pro configuration for Black Friday but this particular model is exclusive to Amazon and somehow landed the steepest discount of the bunch. The 2024 Surface Pro with 13-inch OLED screen (and Snapdragon X Elite chip, 16GB RAM and 256GB Storage) just hit $899, down from its usual $1,399, which represents a 36% reduction that no other retailer can match.

This configuration has become the runaway best-seller during Black Friday because it combines premium features with the most accessible price point in Microsoft’s entire Surface lineup. The 2-in-1 form factor solves the perpetual problem of choosing between a laptop and a tablet by being good at both.

Stunning OLED Display

The 13-inch OLED touchscreen offers a 1 million:1 contrast ratio which means true blacks sit right next to brilliant whites without any of the gray glow you get from LCD panels. Colors pop with intensity that makes photos, videos, and creative work look more vibrant and accurate than standard displays. The OLED technology responds instantly to touch input without the slight lag some touchscreens exhibit, which makes drawing with a Surface Pen feel natural and precise. HDR content is supported on display, which takes full advantage of OLED’s contrast capabilities and makes movies and shows look closer to what directors intended.

It’s powered by a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite processor which is a radical departure from the Intel chips that drove the previous Surface models. Based on this ARM architecture, Microsoft claims that in some workloads, it outperforms the MacBook Air M3 while offering exceptional power efficiency. The integrated neural processing unit performs AI tasks locally rather than relaying data to the cloud, which means responses are instant and your information remains private. Windows 11 natively runs on ARM now, and most major applications have ARM versions or run effortlessly via emulation. Multitasking does not slow down with 16GB of RAM, while 256GB of SSD storage is enough to keep all the essential applications and files.

Battery life reaches 14 hours of typical use which means you can work through a full day without hunting for outlets. The combination of efficient ARM processing and Windows 11’s power management keeps the device running longer than Intel-based alternatives with similar specs. Fast charging via the 65W power supply brings the battery from empty to 80% in about an hour. The device charges through either the proprietary Surface Connect port or USB-C, giving you flexibility when you’re traveling or forgot your specific charger.

The Copilot+ PC designation means this Surface Pro will include dedicated AI features that run entirely on-device. Windows Studio Effects enhances video calls by improving lighting conditions, canceling background noise, and blurring distractions automatically. The system recognizes faces and adjusts exposure accordingly, making you look professional even when in a poorly lit room. Real-time translation provides subtitles for 44 languages during video calls or while streaming content, breaking down language barriers without additional software.

The kickstand allows for a broad range of angles, and lets you perfectly position the screen whether you’re typing at a desk, inking with a pen, or watching videos on your lap. The mechanism behind the kickstand feels very solid and keeps its position well without creeping closed during use. The tablet form factor weighs just 1.97 pounds without a keyboard, making it lighter than most laptops, but with a premium build. The black finish looks professional and shows fewer fingerprints compared to glossy alternatives.

And at $899, this Amazon-exclusive Surface Pro configuration is $500 below Microsoft’s list price and undercuts several competing 2-in-1 systems with worse displays and shorter battery life. It’s the most affordable way to get into Microsoft’s flagship 2-in-1 range without sacrificing the spec that makes the Surface Pro appealing in the first place.
