Coventry hold a five-point buffer at the top of the Championship and they will be hoping to consolidate their position when they host West Midlands rivals West Brom.

The Baggies snapped a four-game winless run at home to Oxford in their last league outing, but they have been troubled on their travels and may find things much tougher against the relentless league leaders.

Coventry vs West Brom preview

Coventry show no sign of slowing down as they chase a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

The Sky Blues could have easily taken time to recover from last season’s heartbreaking defeat to Sunderland in the playoff semi-finals, but they have taken the setback in their stride and are blazing a trail at the Championship summit.

A 3-2 loss at Wrexham at the end of October is the only blot on Cov’s copybook, but they have since beaten Sheffield United 3-1 and won 1-0 away at third-placed Stoke to show that there is a real steel about Frank Lampard’s side this season.

The Sky Blues have taken 17 points from a possible 21 at home and their array of attacking options have been key to their success.

Their 40-goal haul is 14 more than any other team in the division and Coventry’s former Baggie Brandon Thomas-Asante, who has scored a quarter of their league goals, should relish the visit of his former club.

Albion finished only five points adrift of Coventry last season but there is a bigger gulf between them this term.

Whereas Coventry have been scoring goals for fun, Ryan Mason’s side have struggled badly in front of goal.

West Brom have found the net only three times in their last five games and they could be put to the sword by the relentless Sky Blues, who also top the clean sheet charts with seven shutouts.

Unsung Sakamoto can star again

Haji Wright and Thomas-Asante, who have combined for 18 Championship goals this term, have taken most of the plaudits for Coventry.

However, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto has been an unsung hero for the leader leaders and he could have another key role to play against West Brom.

The tricky Japanese winger has registered four goals and two assists in his last six league starts and he could go under the radar if too much focus is placed on Coventry’s flying forwards.

Coventry to win

The Championship leaders have won ten of their 15 league games and should cruise past West Brom, who have lost on their last four away trips.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto to score or assist

Coventry’s Japanese winger has five goal contributions in his last four Championship matches and can again showcase his talents.

Jay Dasilva to commit one or more fouls

The Sky Blues left-back has committed at least one foul in four of his last five Championship appearances and relishes a physical battle.
