Wales boosted morale with a one-point win over Japan last weekend, but they conclude 2025 with daunting fixtures against New Zealand and South Africa.
The Kiwis beat Ireland and Scotland before losing to England last week and All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has rung the changes for their final match of the year.

Wales vs New Zealand preview
The Wales football team turned on the style in a 7-1 thrashing of North Macedonia on Tuesday night to book their place in the World Cup playoffs.
The Dragons, who will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina in March in their efforts to make next summer’s finals, perhaps took inspiration from their rugby union counterparts, who beat Japan last Saturday thanks to Jarrod Evans’ steely late penalty to maintain their place in the top 12 of the world rankings and prolong their hopes of a decent draw at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
After the highs of securing just a second win in 21 Tests, the real fun starts now for Wales. New Zealand are next up at the Principality on Saturday before world champions South Africa head to Cardiff next weekend.
The All Blacks arrive in the capital smarting from a 33-19 defeat at the hands of England, against whom they opened up an early 12-0 lead but folded tamely. There were moments of promise at Twickenham but it must have been a difficult afternoon for the Kiwis, who were outfought and outthought.
Victories over Ireland and Scotland earlier this month eased the pressure on Scott Robertson but his future as New Zealand’s head coach is again in question.
That said, ending the year against Wales is a dream scenario.
For the two nations most traditionally defined by rugby, it feels strange that this is their first meeting since 2022. After winning 54-16 in Cardiff in 2021, New Zealand were slightly better a year later in a 55-23 triumph.
The tourists have made 12 changes from last week’s defeat at Twickenham but a first loss to Wales since 1953 seems unlikely.
Despite their changes in personnel, this is still the All Blacks we are talking about, and those coming in will be motivated to show they deserve more minutes in 2026, so expect them to be clinical with the ball and physical without it.
Robertson, always quirky, has told his players to “have a crack at it”. The chances are that they will and the prospect of New Zealand racking up 52 or more points seems eminently achievable.
