Newcastle United looking to copy Chelsea’s Estevao blueprint with future transfer strategy

Newcastle United have enjoyed some success in the transfer market in recent years, but they want to alter the way they do things to gain an advantage on the teams around them.
Since the PIF takeover, Newcastle have largely been signing players that have proven themselves to some extent across Europe.
Which position should Newcastle United look to strengthen in January?
You look at the signings of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, and even those closer to home like Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon, and it’s clear that Newcastle have been approaching transfers in the here and now rather than looking ahead.
Well, that’s about to change, as Ross Wilson looks to usher in new plans for the Magpies in the transfer market — and it could pay huge dividends for Eddie Howe and his squad.

Newcastle’s new transfer strategy explained
In a fresh report from The Chronicle, we get an insight into how Newcastle will approach the transfer market from now on, with a clear emphasis on exciting young talent.
It is said Howe will be able to collaborate with sporting director Ross Wilson and chief scout Steve Nickson to identify and acquire ’emerging talent’ as that is the new focus for the Magpies.
Nickson and his recruitment team were seen at the FIFA U17 World Cup (where they were watching Loukman Tapsoba, among others) and Newcastle also have representatives at the U20 World Cup right now in Qatar.
It is Newcastle’s plan to steal a march on their Premier League rivals and find the next top wonderkids from here on out.
Apparently, Chelsea’s successful acquisition of Estevao is one that Newcastle are looking at with envious eyes (as are many clubs), and they want to find similar talent in the South American market now.
Nickson has strong contacts there, and that may now be put to good use to find the next Estevao for Newcastle.

Three young superstars Newcastle United should be watching
This would not be the first time the Magpies have shopped in the South American market. Indeed, Newcastle tried to sign Franco Mastantuono, before the Argentinian talent opted for a move to Real Madrid instead.
If they are to go back there again, we’ve picked out three top young talents they should be making a move for as a priority.
First up is Gilberto Mora, who became the youngest goalscorer in the Mexican league at the age of just 16. The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a prodigious rise at Club Tijuana, and has even represented the Mexico men’s team (albeit in an unofficial friendly). Man City and Barcelona are keen, so Newcastle will have to move fast.

Further up the pitch, Agustin Ruberto could well be the next big South American striker to hit the European leagues. Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea have all shown an interest in the River Plate academy graduate, but an ACL injury hindered his progress in 2025.
Finally, there’s Keny Arroyo. He’s a bit of an unusual case, as the young Ecuadorian has already ventured over to Europe, albeit briefly, for a six-month spell with Besiktas. The exciting winger is now playing in Brazil with Cruzeiro, but it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s playing in one of the top leagues.
