Knox football star Myles McLaughlin reflects on record-breaking season after semi-state loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WNDU) – The clock finally struck midnight on Knox senior quarterback Myles McLaughlin’s Cinderella story.

Knox fell to Fort Wayne Luers in the semi-state championship on Friday night, ending Knox’s season and McLaughlin’s quest to become the nation’s all-time leading rusher.

Even though this season didn’t have a fairytale ending, it doesn’t make McLaughlin’s playing career at Knox Community High School any less special.

He broke national records this year for rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season while finishing his career as the nation’s second all-time leading rusher behind current NFL running back Derrick Henry.

“It was a great season; I’ll look at that the rest of my life and be super grateful for it,” McLaughlin said after the game. “It just sucks we went out this way.”

McLaughlin shared what was special about high school football and the memories he made.

“Just the brotherhood, man,” he said. “I’ve played with these kids since I was really little, probably elementary school, and I’m just really going to miss these guys for sure.”

McLaughlin said even though the season didn’t end the way he would have wanted it to, he will forever cherish the memories he made with his teammates.

He also said he will be announcing his college football commitment soon.
