Asmir Begovic has been impressed with his old club Stoke City so far this season as he tries to get one over them today.
Begovic, now aged 38, is braced to make his second Leicester start while Jakub Stolarczyk continues a recovery from injury. He will get a warm reception from a sell-out away end of more than 3,000 Stoke supporters and expects a difficult afternoon.
He said: “They’re ahead of us in the table so it’s an opportunity for us to close that gap and keep up with the teams ahead of us, which is obviously what we want to do.
“They have been playing really well this year. Mark Robins is a really experienced manager who knows what this league is all about and he’s going to have them ready.
“We’ve got to make sure we’re ready to go and put in a really good performance.”
It will be a mini reunion of the Stoke class of 2015, the last Stoke team to win at Leicester, as Begovic will have a chance to catch up with returning Stoke midfielder Steven Nzonzi, sporting director Jon Walters and first team coach Ryan Shawcross.
But his focus will be on trying to kickstart Leicester’s season. They sat 12th going into this weekend but only four points adrift of the top six and six behind the Potters.
Begovic told Radio Leicester: “The most important game is always the next one and Stoke is a massive game for us. We want to go into it with good belief, good confidence and the result at Norwich helps that.
“We’ve got the players, we’ve got the squad and hopefully we can put in a complete performance at home, get a result and kick on from there and start putting results together on a consistent basis.”
