Two from Bexley held in prison over ‘murder plot’ after man shot

A man and woman from the Bexley area are being held in prison accused of conspiracy to murder after a man was shot in the West Midlands.

The victim, a man is his 30s, was shot near The Lanes Shopping Centre in Sutton Coldfield at around 7.30am on Friday, October 24.

He was taken to hospital but his injuries were found not to be life-threatening.

Five people were arrested and have now been charged – including two people from the Bexley area:

  • Terrence Regis, 43, of Erith Road in Belvedere, charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

  • Carly Smith, 36, of no fixed abode but understood to be from the Bexley area, charged with conspiracy to murder. 

  • Kirstie Gavin, 32, of James Street in Gillingham, charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to murder.

  • Adrian Hylton, 43, of Godstone Road in St Margarets, Richmond, charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

  • Dwaine Patterson, 46, of Wharfside Street in Birmingham, charged with conspiracy to murder.

All have now appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing at Birmingham Crown Court next month.

Detective Inspector Stacey Follows, from the West Midlands Major Crime Unit, said: “These charges are a significant step forward in what has been a complex and demanding investigation.

“Dedicated officers have been working around the clock since this happened, with the aim of making arrests and securing charges against those suspected to be involved, and we’re grateful for the support of police colleagues outside of WMP.
