Lewis Baker is stuck in the Stoke City treatment room after picking up an ankle injury.

The midfielder had to be substituted when Brandon Thomas-Asante landed on his lower leg during the second half of Stoke’s game against Coventry going into the international break.

He was still in an air boot this morning but he will work ‘aggressively’ with the club’s medical staff to get back into contention as quickly as possible.

Mark Robins said: “Lewis Baker will be out for a period. He had somebody land on his ankle in the last game, which caused him an issue. So he’s damaged his ankle to a degree and I’m not sure how long it’s going to be. We’ll try to be aggressive with that and he’ll try to be aggressive with when he possibly can.

“Things are settling down, the swelling is going and the pain is subsiding. He’ll be able to pick up a little bit more after that. Other than that we’re a clean bill of health.”

Robins thanked Graham Potter for how Sweden handled Viktor Johansson, who will be in the squad for Stoke’s trip to Leicester this weekend despite sitting out of the final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Bosun Lawal and Sam Gallagher have also trained this week. Lawal has been out since picking up a hamstring injury late in September while Gallagher is yet to feature this season.

Robins said: “Gally has not played a game since the last game of last season so we’ll be a little bit more cautious with him. But both him and Bosun are looking good. They are both looking fit and fresh and ready to go.

“I’m reliant on both Gally and the medical department to give us a steer on what we can do and what we can’t but he’s trained all week this week and he’s fine.”
